Carlos Espinosa helps lead Faith that Works’ outreach to youth in the Chesterfield Mobile Home Park (CMHP) and has provided an ongoing presence in the community by living in one of Faith that Works’ two trailers in the CMHP. A native Spanish speaker from Colombia, Carlos has been able to build relationships with Hispanic families in the CMHP and offer practical help like translating and homework help. In addition to spending time with youth in the community, Carlos volunteers regularly with our weekly K-6th grade tutoring program. He says volunteering has helped him learn that sometimes people just need someone to listen:

“I have been volunteering with Faith that Works (FTW) for almost two years. I first heard about FTW through Wanda Goggin, who has been involved with the organization and told me a little about the ministry and the possibility of living in the trailer park. I met up with FTW’s director, Terri, a couple days after, and she shared her vision for the ministry, both local and global. The thing that I have loved the most about volunteering is getting to know the lives of the kids and families in the CMHP and the FTW volunteers. I have learned that sometimes the only thing people want is someone to talk to and to share their story. It has been great to see believers from different churches serving and sharing the gospel with boldness. The great thing about this ministry is that it is right here in our backyard which makes it very easy to develop lifelong relationships. We do not have to go abroad to be a witness for Jesus. We can serve people here in St. Louis.”
